You Can’t Reject It

January 30, 2007 | Comments Off

You can not reject an offer that hasn’t been made. During a job hunting process it is possible that you come up to a situation where you start making decisions on your head based on the outcome of the interview/selection process. You may be interviewing with multiple companies and may be expecting offers from them. You may start deciding which ones you like the most or less.

One thing you should be very careful about is about is not jumping into concussions of which opportunity is the best before being able to compare real offers. An offer is not the best offer if there is no offer yet! A job opportunity is not real until the hiring manager asks you to accept an offer that include a detailed compensation package.

Some things you may want to keep in mind all the way until the day you accept an offer:

  • Don’t stop doing your best at interviews and selection process.
  • Don’t stop looking for new opportunities.
  • Don’t stop up-selling you and establishing why you are an ideal candidate.
  • Don’t assume that an opportunity is there just to increase your negotiating power in another opportunity. That may be THE opportunity.
  • Don’t start suggesting potential candidates that may be suitable for that position (thinking that you may be rejecting it and would like them to hire one of your friends).

Don’t jump into concussions or hard decisions until you are ready to close on the opportunities.
